Can I Fly With CBD Oil?

Traveling can be incredibly stressful – between security, getting to your flight on time, and wondering if you remembered to pack everything important, it’s no wonder that so many people suffer from anxiety when flying.

CBD can be a great solution to this anxiety and other flying-related physical problems – but are you allowed to fly with CBD? Find the rules for flying with CBD supplements here.

Why Use CBD When Flying

Even if you don’t use CBD on a daily basis, it can be a great addition to your travel bag.

CBD is a great calming treatment that can help with anxiety caused by flying. In addition, it can help with soreness and stiff joints from being cramped in an airplane seat and even help you sleep on long flights.

This supplement can be a great natural alternative to sleep aids, anti-anxiety treatments, and painkillers that you may normally use while flying.

Can I Fly with CBD?

Great news – you absolutely can fly with CBD! Just make sure you thoroughly understand the requirements of what can and cannot be packed in your carry-on bag before bringing your favorite CBD product – or it may be taken away at security.

While previous TSA policies made no distinctions between hemp-derived CBD oil and marijuana, new changes permit hemp-derived CBD oil if it is produced within the regulations defined by the law under the Agriculture Improvement Act 2018.

How to Fly with CBD

The TSA Liquids Rule states that you can bring a quart-sized plastic bag filled with individual liquid bottles. These bottles cannot contain more than 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters of liquid.

Carry-on luggage cannot contain larger containers of liquids. Even if you have a larger container – say a 6 oz bottle – that only has 3.4 oz of CBD oil in it, you can’t bring it along. The size of the container must be no larger than 3.4 oz.

You can avoid the entire liquid problem by bringing along CBD capsules or gummies.

No matter what type of product you choose to bring, ensure that your CBD does not contain THC. Because marijuana is still illegal on a federal level, airlines do not permit THC products onboard. Make sure you check your labels and only bring CBD derived from hemp oil with no psychoactive components.

Additionally, if you’re traveling outside of the USA, make sure to check the laws in your destination – while flying within the country with CBD is fine, your destination may have different laws.

Whatever form of CBD you prefer, you should not have a problem taking it along on your flight. Just make sure you’re following the same rules you would for any other item in your carry-on luggage!
