Is CBD Oil Safe for Kids?

The outlook for CBD (cannabidiol) oil in the treatment of medical, behavioral, and neurological issues is very positive. Many parents credit its usage with helping their children to lead better, healthier, more pain-free lives. If you’re considering CBD oil for your child, however, you want to make sure you have the facts. Most importantly, you probably want to know whether CBD oil is safe for kids.

Benefits of CBD Oil

Many medical issues common in adults often affect children as well. Using CBD oil can help to mitigate the symptoms of a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Digestive issues
  • Epilepsy and seizures
  • Anxiety
  • Autism
  • Nausea
  • Asthma
  • Depression,
  • And More

Children can benefit greatly, both physically and mentally, from regular supervised servings of CBD oil. Incorporating it into their schedule is easy, too. Even better, CBD is available in a range of forms and flavors, making it convenient to take no matter where you are or how busy your lives get.

Is CBD Oil Safe for Kids?

Yes, CBD is safe for children to consume. The World Health Organization recently released a report stating that CBD is “generally well tolerated with a good safety profile” and has no effects that would indicate potential for abuse or dependence.

It’s still important, however, to understand what it is, how it works with the body’s receptors, and how to administer your child’s serving safely and responsibly. If you’re unsure about where to start, consult with your pediatrician or family physician before adding CBD into your kid’s daily routine, especially if it could react with any prescribed medications.

CBD and Autism

Cannabidiol’s effectiveness in reducing the symptoms of a wide range of conditions is remarkable, but CBD also shows promising results in the treatment of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

CBD & Autism - A recent* study into the effects of CBD on children with autism published by Neurology found "behavioral outbreaks were much improved or very much improved" by the use of CBD. Here's what they reported: 80% of parents noted a decrease in problematic behaviors, with 62% reporting significant improvements. Half of the children had improved communication. 40% reported significant decreases in anxiety. Note: one-third of the study participants began the study with no anxiety. *Published April 10,2018

According to another recent study, this one by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), there is evidence to suggest that CBD is a “promising treatment option for refractory behavioral problems in children with ASD.” Results included lower levels of stress, anxiety, sleep disturbance, irritability, and loss of appetite. Study participants also reported improved communication and fewer disruptive behavioral outbreaks.
