There’s a stereotype that associates cannabis and all other hemp product usage with younger, usually college-aged people. And this simply isn’t true. People of every age can benefit from the powers of hemp and cannabis. But, like all products, marketing hemp to older consumers takes a different tactic. And they can’t just be lumped together as one group! All ages use cannabis and hemp for a variety of reasons, and it’s important to examine your market carefully.
According to author Abbie Rosner, “…ten years ago, pulling out a joint at a dinner party could have been a serious social infraction. And now, a vape pen produced at a similar gathering generates curiosity, interest and likely future consumers.”
Can I Grow Hemp at Home Now?
Now that the Farm Bill has removed hemp from the Controlled Substances Act, a lot of questions are surfacing about what is and isn’t legal when it comes to hemp. Some states, such as Colorado, allow growing cannabis at home if you meet several conditions (legal age, medical marijuana status, legal plant count, etc.). But this is certainly not the case in most states as of January 2019.
So, the short answer: probably not. Check your local laws before you start trying to grow your own plants!
Global Cannabis: What Does the Future Hold?
The landscape of cannabis and hemp are changing rapidly worldwide. The United States is starting to catch up with the passing of the Farm Bill, but we have a long way to go. “The United States needs to figure out the future of cannabis and make a decision federally in order to compete, as we don’t want to get left behind,” says John Billings, Head of Cultivation at The Farm Dispensary.
